Talmud è una parola ebraica che significa letteralmente «studio»; ma indica, in sostanza, un grande libro: la raccolta di commenti e pareri alle norme etiche, giuridiche e rituali del popolo ebraico (giudaismo). Questo corpus di testi ha una natura – per così dire – aperta.
Come si chiama la Torah orale?
C'è piuttosto una situazione di tipo triangolare: tra l'assemblea e il Libro sta la tradizione, che, in termine tecnico, è chiamata Torah she-be-'al pèh, che significa «la torah che sta sulla bocca». Non solo sulla bocca di chi legge, ma anche sulla bocca di tutte le generazioni che li hanno preceduti.
