Burqa è l'arabizzazione della parola persiana purda (parda) che significa "cortina", "velo", lo stesso significato cioè di hijab.
Chi indossa hijab?
Ḥijāb è il termine comunemente più utilizzato per designare il "velo" della donna musulmana, anche se nel Corano altri due termini (khimār e jilbāb) lo definiscono in modo più preciso, specificando come esso dovrebbe coprire il capo della credente e a parere di molti anche il volto.
