La terapia topica si avvale di antimicotici imidazolici (clotrimazolo, miconazolo, chetoconazolo) o sostituiti della piridina (ciclopiroxolamina) che, sotto forma di creme o lozioni, devono essere applicati anche 2-3 cm oltre il margine delle lesioni per almeno 2 settimane.

La tigna è contagiosa e può diffondersi facilmente tramite oggetti contaminati (come asciugamani o indumenti), con il contatto con altre persone o animali domestici o da fattoria che hanno contratto l'infezione. A volte si può contrarre la tigna attraverso il contatto prolungato con terreno contaminato.
